First Announcement

Dear Colleague,

This is the First Announcement of the Tenth International Conference in Organic Electronics (ICOE 2014), which will be held in Modena, Italy on June 11-13, 2014.

ICOE is an annual series of conferences dedicated to the state-of-the-art research in organic electronics. ICOE 2014 in Modena follows the previous meetings held in Grenoble, Tarragona, Rome, Paris, Liverpool, Eindhoven.

The conference features 14 internationally-leading scientists as invited speakers. Moreover, the perspectives of organic electronics will be discussed thanks to the presence of two keynote speakers, Prof. Dago de Leeuw (Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research, Mainz Germany) and Prof. Henning Sirringhaus (Univ. Cambridge, UK).

The conference program envisions a variety of topics, ranging from fundamental aspects to emerging applications, with the aim to bring together scientists from academia, government and industrial research to interact in an informal, proactive environment.

Contributions will be distributed into the following research areas:
• Interfaces in organic electronics.
• Understanding and controlling order/disorder and defects.
• Organic materials challenges in synthesis, design and processing.
• Organic biosensors for health and environment.
• Implantable organic electronics and active interfaces to living matter.
• Hybrid and nanocomposite materials for organic electronics.
• Organic electronics for energy applications.
• Organic Spintronics.
• Integration, multifunctionality, flexible and large area technology.
• Perspectives of organic electronics.

The format is single-session, with 32 contributed talks and two poster sessions. The selection of the contributions will be managed by the International Committee in order to guarantee high scientific standards.

Three satellite events will be held prior the conference. On Monday 9/6/2014 the one-day workshop on "Implantable Organic BioElectronics", organised by the Consortium of the EC-FP7 Project "Implantable Organic Nano-Electronics" (I-ONE-FP7), will feature several keynote speakers among the most active researchers in this emerging field; on 10/6/2014 two one-day schools aimed to young researchers and graduate students will be held in parallel: "ICOE 2014 School on Predictive Modelling and Computational Methods for Organic Electronics", chaired by Elisa Molinari (UNIMORE) and Claudio Zannoni (UNIBO); "ICOE 2014 School on Advanced Scanning Probe Microscopies for Organic Electronics" chaired by Andrea Alessandrini and Fabio Biscarini (UNIMORE), Ricardo Garcia (CSIC Madrid) and Paolo Samorì (Université de Strasbourg).

The social event will be the visit to the Ferrari factory in Maranello, about 20 km from Modena, followed by the banquet.

Modena is a lively and vibrant city, although it offers the atmosphere and charme of Italian renaissance cities. You will have the chance to visit one of the most beautiful Romanic Cathedrals in Europe, registered in the World Heritage Centre List by Unesco (http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/827). Other sightseeing spots are definitely worth a visit, such as the XVII century Ducal Palace, former residence of the Este Family and today location of the Military Academy, the Luciano Pavarotti Theatre, several Industrial Museums (Modena is home both to Ferrari and Maserati cars), together with permanent and temporary Art Exhibitions Modena restaurants are top-level, ranging from Michelin three-starred restaurants to small cozy trattorie spread across the city centre. Modena food is famous worldwide, from balsamic vinegar and tortellini to tigelle and cotechino, accompanied with Lambrusco wine. For the week end, one may want to travel by train to nearby attractive locations: Bologna, Parma (30 mins), Milan, Florence and Ferrara (1 hour), Ravenna and Venice (2 hours), Rome and Turin (2.5 hours), Genova and Liguria Coast (3 hours).

We have deliberately kept the registration fees of both ICOE 2014 and the satellite events affordable, in order to encourage the largest participation especially from young scientists and graduate students, while keeping the quality of the program high. The fee will also cover most of the living expenses, with the exception of hotel and dinners. It is already possible to register on-line, and shortly to submit your contribution.

We really hope that you will contribute to the stimulating scientific program of ICOE 2014!

On behalf of the ICOE 2014 International and Organizing Committees, I will be glad to welcome you in Modena in June 2014.

Fabio Biscarini
ICOE 2014, Chairperson.
